Incident - Barn fire - update

A call was received to the fire service to report a barn on fire at the above address.

2 appliances from Tiverton, one from Cullompton and the water bowser from Exeter, Danes Castle attended.

Soon after arrival crews confirmed a barn approximately 20m x 8m well alight, 2 hose reel jets in use.

Crews have now confirmed that steady progress is being made, crews are turning over and damping down, using 2 hose reel jets, 1 main jet and a portable dam is in use. Crews are to soon scale down this incident to 2 appliances and have requested a relief crew for 05:00.


One Fire Engine from Middlemoor, Exeter, is now in attendance and crews are providing a watching brief allowing fire to burn out.


One crew from Bampton are now in attendance. The telehandler has also been requested.


Crews are removing haybales to open ground using the telehandler. They are turning over and damping down using two hose reels.

All contents are now removed from the barn and crews still making steady progress turning over and damping down. The telehandler is no longer in use. Two hose reel jets and one forty five ml jet in use.


Stop message has been received - one barn approximately twenty metres by ten metres consisting of thirty large bales of hay all affected by fire. Extinguished using fire service telehandler. Two hose reels, one forty five ml jet and thermal imaging camera supplemented by portable dam. Tiverton Fire crews are requested to attend the site at 18:30 to revisit the scene to check for hotspots.
