Incident - Barn Fire

Date: 12/07/2014
Time: 00:38
Location: Sopers Hill, Tamerton Foliot
Area: Western
County: Devon

One fire engine from Crownhill was mobilised to reports of a fire at unknown location in the Sopers Hill area of Tamerton Foliot.

On arrival crews confirmed this was a barn fire with farm machinery involved and asked for 3 more fire engines and a water carrier. Crews are at work using compressed air foam to extinguish the fire. They are also at work with a water wall spray and salvage sheets for spark arresting purposes.

The barn is approximately 15 metres x 30 metres and also contained a large amount of straw, hay and a telehandler which have all been severely damaged by fire.

A Fire Service telehandler has also now been sent on to the incident from Clyst St George.

Electric and water have been isolated and a water dam set up.  Crews have also used more compressed air foam and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.  Salvage sheets are being used to protect fertiliser in an adjacent barn.

Periodic inspections are now being made by fire crews.  The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

These are the final details for this incident.
