Fire Safety training in the workplace is a legal requirement and of paramount importance. Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service's Maritime and Commerical Training Centre, Plymouth, therefore offer a wide range of accredited courses that meet the various ever changing needs of Commerce and Industry as well as the Marine Industry. The Centre has a multi-media lecture room and a fully equipped breathing apparatus training room.
The steel ship structure, recently refurbished, is one of only a few in the UK recognised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency as suitable for STCW 95 Basic and Advanced ship fire-fighting courses as well as a full range of courses for the Marine Industry that includes Marine Fire-fighting and Fire-fighting at Sea for Fishermen.
Confined space training and courses for those who work with hazardous substances etc. also form part of our main course prospectus. Other areas of training are targeted with F.E.T.A, Construction Industry and Ladder Training also being delivered on site. Courses can be tailored to suit customers’ specialist requirements on request.
Fire awareness and fire safety courses are held regularly on site. In addition to the theoretical lessons, delegates have the opportunity to use different types of fire extinguisher, a fire blanket and undertake scenarios on means of escape. These practical exercises are always well received and form an invaluable aspect to the course that many other training bodies are unable to provide.
In conjunction with Edexcel and Fire Risk Management Ltd, DSFRS Maritime & Commercial Training Centre, offers individuals who wish to improve their knowledge, capability and confidence in fire risk management the opportunity to study for BTEC (Business and Technician Education Council) qualification in Advanced Fire Risk Management.
Each course delegate who successfully completes a course is presented with a certificate issued by Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and/or the appropriate awarding body.
