The Devon and Somerset Branches of the British Red Cross
The Fire and Emergency Support Service is designed to meet the needs of people who have suffered damage to their home following a fire, flood or similar incident.
The service is delivered by specially trained British Red Cross volunteers who use an adapted vehicle to assist them in providing practical and emotional support to the victims of the incident.
The Fire and Emergency Support Service operates in support of Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and will attend the scene of a property fire, flooding or similar incidents, at the request of the Fire and Rescue Service.
In addition, statutory authorities may also call upon the British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service for non fire incidents, i.e. evacuations and to provide support to those affected by a major incident or emergency. This can involve providing assistance and support to humanitarian assistance centres amongst many other roles.
The Devon and Somerset Branches of the British Red Cross are constantly striving to recruit volunteers to the Service in order to respond to the increasing demands placed upon them by Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.
