Changes to the Area Commands
The Area Command Structure changed on 8 June 2009. The previous area commands of East Somerset, West Somerset, East Devon, North Devon, South Devon and West Devon are now:
1. Somerset Command (formerly East and West Somerset) - Taunton, Bridgwater, Yeovil and Shepton/Wells Group
2. Central Command (formerly North and East Devon) - Exeter, Exmouth, Bideford and Barnstaple Groups
3. Western Command (formerly South and West Devon) - Plymouth West, Plymouth South, South Devon and Dartmoor and Torbay Groups
The new command structure has been the result of a review of the management positions within the service and following on from the retirement of some of our Area Managers both during and after combination.
There will be no real change to how we operate at station level, as the responsibility for stations will still sit with the relevant Group Commander. These changes will allow us to manage more effectively both operationally and in our partnership working with other agencies and public authorities.
Devon and Somerset are counties in South West England, bordered by Cornwall to the west, and by Avon, Wiltshire and Dorset to the east.
