Information for contractors Brexit transition

The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service as an emergency service has been most appreciative of the ongoing commitment and support from our contracted suppliers to maintain services and supplies during the Covid-19 outbreak. As we approach winter and other potential disruptions we fully appreciate this has been and continues to be a very challenging time for organisations and employees.

Brexit transition - Government guidance

From 1 January 2021 businesses that deal with Europe will also have to follow new rules on exports, imports, tariffs, data and hiring. Whilst there are still uncertainties regarding the process for transition, all businesses are advised to visit the government website Gov.uk/Transition (Check, Change and Go).

Brexit transition - preparations

As an emergency service we have identified key supply areas that maybe impacted the most from disruptions or change in costs. We have been contacting those supply areas directly to identify their business continuity plans for Brexit. Businesses are taking different approaches from increased stock holding, checking resilience in supply, seeking alternative domestic arrangements or mitigating for the impact of increasing costs and administration responsibilities.

We need to review our suppliers plans for dealing with Brexit against our internal business continuity arrangements. A range of commercial actions may need to be considered in mitigating any impact of a Brexit transition. In exceptional circumstances we may need to make modifications or alter our requirements as a result.

We acknowledge that some suppliers may struggle to meet their full contractual obligations during this transition. We want to work with our suppliers to provide mutual support where it is possible to do so. Where that is not possible we will look to resume normal contract service delivery as soon as possible.

Supplier obligations

We need all suppliers to ensure that business continuity is maintained wherever possible and that suppliers enact their business continuity plans in accordance with Government guidance provided. Where businesses are anticipating a change or disruption to supply please let us know at the first opportunity by contacting procurement@dsfire.gov.uk Title: Brexit transition (Supplier name).
