Our vision and mission
Our vision is to make Devon and Somerset a ‘safer place to live, work and visit’.
Our mission is to ‘Act to Protect and Save - to prevent emergencies, create safer communities and respond, when required, in order to save life.’
We take a service and community view to how we manage risk. As a public service we continue to face budget reductions, just like other public sector organisations. To adapt to these budget reductions we will continue with our plan of changing the way we work to match local risk. We have already made changes that have created significant financial savings, for example in recent years we have changed the crewing arrangement at a number of our fire stations.
Our values guide us in the way we approach these challenges and by understanding the current and emerging risks we can make sure we have the right resources in the right place.
We have three main priorities. We use these priorities to guide how we use our reduced resources and assess the importance of new work:
- Public safety
- Staff safety
- Effectiveness and efficiency
